SIDING

SIDING

New siding will improve the curb appeal and value of your home.Various siding materials have come and gone over the years, with only a handful of standards remaining. The most popular siding includes, wood siding, metal siding (aluminum and steel), vinyl siding, and fiber cement siding.

WOOD SIDING

Common types of wood siding include, wood planks, boards or panels, and shingles. The main drawbacks of wood siding are its high cost and relitivley high maintenance needs. Wood siding is avialable in a wide variety of styles, textures, and finishes. It is fairly easy to repair but difficult to install over exsisting siding.Wood requires an exterior finish, such as paint or stain. Painted finmishes tend to require higher maintenance and good exterior house painting preperation. Stain finishes usually require somewht less maintenance than paint.

METAL SIDING: ALUMINUM AND STEEL

Aluminum siding has evolved over the years into a very low-maintenance and popular siding choice for newer homes. Metal siding comes in a broad range of styles, including horizontal and verticle strips and panels as well as shingles. At a distance is it hard to distinguish metal siding from wood. Metal is durable material, but prefinished painted finishes have been known to fade, chalk, and bleed into brick walls below the siding. Newer versions tend to be more color-fast than theiur predecessors. It is now avialable with some speacial plastic or vinyl coatings for additional resistance to fading and weathering. Aluminum and steel is prone to denting and can be noisy, however are low-maintenance siding materials. Standard pre-painted aluminum siding may be prone to chalking.

VINYL SIDING

Vinyl siding comes in a range of styles, including horizontal and verticle panels and a range of colors. It is avialable i a variety of textures, including wood shake/shingkle style. Commonly used as a retrofit siding, vinyl is often applied over old wood siding. It can be prone to cracking in cold weather if subjected to impact. Proper installation is critical, or siding will wrap or buckle. Vinyl siding is very low-maintenance, it will never need painting as the color is solid through the material. If siding cracks, it may be replaced or repaired.

FIBER CEMENT SIDING

Cement fiber siding is the latest development in residental siding. It is durable, very low-maintenance, and because it is made from recyclable materials, its resource-effient. Fiber cement siding cuts and installs like wood siding. It cines the closest to emulating natural wood grain and is virtually indistingguashabloe from some wood siding products. Fiber cement comes primed or pre-finished. It is aviable in beveled planks, shingle, or shakes, and stucco-panel style. It is extremley durable and the material is not subject to rot or have insect damage.
